I received an eARC of this through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Playing Hurt (Aces Hockey, #6)

This is the sixth and most recent romance in the Aces Hockey Series which features the players for a fictional NHL hockey team in Chicago. In Playing Hurt we follow Chase and Jordyn.

Hockey star, Chase is not having a good season — an old injury is causing him problems. What’s worse, people are starting to notice, which is leading to a lack of confidence and depression. Then he starts tweeting with pop superstar, Jordyn. What starts as fun flirty banter during hockey games, develops into an intense relationship. When both are sidelined by injury they need to learn to step back and take care of themselves.

The real strength of this book is the characters. Both Chase and Jordyn have people in their lives who pressure them to continue performing as long as possible. They also have conditions/old injuries which are causing them problems. By the end, they realize that it is possible to depend on some people and that taking personal time does not make them weak or failures.

The use of social media makes Chase and Jordyn’s meet-cute fun. They have awesome chemistry! My favourite scene is their first date. There is also some quality smut and a healthy dose of humour. A solid sports romance and an enjoyable read.

This book is due to be published July 17/2018 by Loveswept.
